It's a Party!
Ms. Shrader’s 3rd Grade class will be having a party to celebrate Christmas on Friday, December 18, 2009 at 10:30 am, just before the holidays begin.
I am asking all students to bring a treat to share – cookies or chips or drinks or whatever they would like. Children may also participate in a gift exchange if they wish. This is entirely voluntary. Students who want to do this should bring a wrapped gift (under $5) for someone of his/her same gender. (A boy should bring a “boy gift” and a girl should bring a “girl gift”.) Those who bring a gift will then get a gift. Those who choose not to participate in the gift exchange will still celebrate at the party, but they will not receive a gift from another student.
We will also be singing, and generally having a good time! Parents are welcome to stop by and join in. (Please remember that you need to be registered as a volunteer with the school in order to come into the classroom during regular school time).
I hope to see you there!

Christmas Program Tonight!
The Christmas Program for the 1st - 3rd Grades is tonight (12/10/09) starting at 6:30 pm in the South Gym. Students should arrive at 6:00 pm and report to our classroom (C1).
Third grade students are to wear jeans or jean skirts (uniform pants if they have no jeans) and a green or mostly green top. If they have absolutely nothing green to wear, they can wear a blue shirt.
After the program, the students will return to our classroom, where parents may pick them up.

Homework 12/10/09
There is not much homework tonight because most students will be here for the Christmas program.
We will be having a math test tomorrow on Chapter 10 (comparing, ordering and rounding numbers). Most students felt pretty sure they understood the concepts and would do well on the test. However, some chose to take their math books home to study.
The only other homework is the usual "read for 15 minutes". Students who are here for the program tonight are excused from this homework.
I hope to see everyone here tonight!

Have a Great Weekend!
There is no homework for this weekend (as usual). However, students took home their progress reports today. Please review them with your student and then sign and return them on Monday.
On another note, I have already received Scholastic book orders for over $20 from the two catalogs sent home. This means I will be putting in the order on Monday evening, and we will be getting the books delivered before Christmas. So, if you want to get in on the early shipment, send your order in on Monday. (Remember that you can also put your order in online at www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs . If you have not already set up an account there, our class activiation code is 121MQ. Signing up with this code will insure that your order is delivered to our class.)
Remember also that the Christmas show for 1st - 3rd Grades is coming up soon! The students are practicing hard to be ready for Thursday night. You should have already received flyers about it, and should receive another one tonight.
That's all for now! Hope you have a great week-end!

Important Reminders
Dear Parents (and Students!)
Parent conferences are scheduled for Thursday and Friday of this week. I sent home conference notices today. I tried as best I could to accomodate everyone's preferences, but had to schedule some outside of the time slot specified on the request. Please be sure to return the form tomorrow whether or not you can make the scheduled time. This will give me some time to make adjustments if they are needed.
Today I also sent home Scholastic Book Club catalogs. Orders are due by Friday, October 23, 2009. You can either send the order form back with a check (made out to Scholastic) or you can order online, once you have set up an account. To do this SIGN UP at www.Scholastic.com/bookclubs . On the parent page, click the "Don't have a User Name and Password?" link, then register for your own username and password. When prompted, enter our one-time Class Activation Code--121MQ. This code ensures that your order is sent to me. You can then pay by credit card, and the books will be sent to our class with the rest of our order.
I am looking forward to meeting with all of you later this week!
Thanks,
Ms. Shrader

Welcome to Our Blog
Hello, Students and Parents!
It's great to have another way to share information with you all. I plan to use this site to update you on what is happening in the classroom, as well as posting important information that might get lost (such as spelling lists.)
This upcoming week we will be having parent conferences (Thursday and Friday). Teachers are meeting Friday to try to work out a schedule to accomodate families, and notices about the schedule will be going out on Monday. Parents, if you have an email address, and would like your notice sent via email, I would be happy to oblige. Just send an email to dshrader@hesglendale.org and ask for it. Please put your child's name in the request, to help me keep things simple.
Report cards this year have a very different look. We are no longer using the A, B, C, D, F grading system. However, the explanation for each grade is at the bottom of the report card. The report is one of the things we will be discussing during parent conferences.
Keep checking back here. I plan to update frequently!
