Update and Homework 8/24/10

A reminder:
Tomorrow is early release at 12:45!!

Today we sent out Subway cards for our fall fundraiser.  Our class goal is 90 cards sold. A sheet of information for parents was sent home with each student.  These cards are a great deal if you ever like to eat at Subway! Each student took home 5 cards to sell for $10 each. Please help your student return the envelope with the money or the unsold cards by September 8.  We really want to win a pizza party!

Today I also sent out Student Handbooks with each student.  Please review this carefully with your student as it contains information on expectations for students, parents, and teachers and just generally how the school operates.  A blue form was sent home with the handbook.  This is the form you and your student are to sign to say you received and reviewed the handbook.  On the back of the form is another form detailing the expectations of students, of parents, of teachers, and of the school generally in the education process for your student.  The federal government requires all of us to sign this compact to signify that we understand and agree to fulfill the expectations of each of us.  Please complete both sides of this form and return it to me as soon as possible.  Thank you!

Homework:
  • Math:  Worksheet handout P7
  • Reading:  Read for 15 minutes
That's all!

Reminders and Homework 8/19/10

Happy Thursday!

Diamondback tickets were distributed today. Some students said their parents had called but did not receive tickets.  If this is the case for you, call again (and call Ms Eva Mendoza at the school).  Ms. Mendoza is following up, and hopefully you can pick up tickets tomorrow.

Tomorrow is "Dollar for Duds".  This means that students who pay a dollar do not have to wear the school uniform. (They do need to dress appropriately, however -- no short-shorts, halters, jeans full of holes, bare feet, etc.)

I understand that there were quite a few concerns about last night's math homework.  We worked it out together in class, and students seemed to understand. The wording of a couple of the problems was a little confusing.

Homework for tonight:
  • Math:  Worksheet handout P5
  • Reading:  Read for 15 minutes
That's all!

Welcome Back!

It’s great to be starting another school year! It is hard to believe the summer is really gone. I am looking forward to meeting a new class of students and having a wonderful year of learning.

Congratulations to last year’s students, whose scores on the AIMS test gave Heritage Elementary a “Performing Plus” grade on the Arizona Learns state rating system. This year we are looking to achieve even better things!

Our “Meet the Teacher” evening is Tuesday, August 10 at 6:00 pm at the school. This is an opportunity to meet me and pick up more information specific to our class. You will also be able to get more information on other programs and activities available at Heritage Elementary School, such as transportation, lunch program, clubs, and sports. Don’t miss it!

For ongoing communication, check back here regularly. I usually post updates, homework, spelling lists, etc. You can also email me at dshrader@hesglendale.org or call me at the school number, (623) 742-3956. If I am not able to take the call at the time, I have voice mail, and usually return emails and calls by the end of the day.

Hoping to see you on Tuesday evening!

Ms. Shrader
